Gift Card went POOF, into thin air?

Hello,

I sent a gift card to a friend and they were having issues with their account. 

There was no option to CANCEL/REFUND the Gift Card, so I disputed it. 

However, the person I sent the gift card to..... That account does not exist anymore, and they did not receive the gift card.

My dispute was REJECTED.

How do I get my money back for the gift card? 

Does PayPal just automatically keep this money if nobody received it? Doesn't seem ethical at all.

Hello. Anyone have any input they can provide? 

I keep missing normal business hours. I'll have to try again tomorrow.
