So I just spend a significant time this morning reading through the string around "changing my Pay Me link". The string starts in 2015 and as of this writing was still be discussed in Dec 2018. PayPal has failed to aid the masses with this silly limitation. I guess we all have to start looking for another payment vehicle which is sad. I know Google Pay may be an option, as in three years, we the owners of OUR own LINK cannot impact OUR LINK for things such as a business name change, typo, or any other reason. This is an extreme FAIL on Pay Pal's behalf, real narrow thinking on their behalf as well. I too was attempting to re-purpose my already existing Pay ME link and sadly cannot. I represent a team of 50 travel agents, so I will be sharing the FAILURE of Pay Pal on every travel industry BLOG, Facebook page and anywhere else I can for not attempting to aid the folks that are using their product. They are a publicly traded stock and well you would think they would care about keeping their stock value up by actually helping their customers. Very SAD!!
I would also like to request that PayPal make it an option to change your PayPal Me url. Perhaps you could make it a pay for service? Like $5 to $20 per name change? This would be an easy way for PayPal to make money, as so many of us want to change our PayPal Me url names.
For me, I chose my married name, never anticipating I would get divorced. I do NOT want to use a name that associates with my exhusband. Paypal get on this. Let us change our .me names.
The original post requesting this feature is from 2015, by this point it seems pretty clear to me (albeit rather frustrating) that PayPal have no intention of changing this, and adding the capability to change one's PayPal.me URL. I've seem people comment stuff like "This is why they say to choose carefully." and other sarcastic unhelpful stuff, however, there is more than one reason that a person may have chosen carefully but now need to change their URL.
A legal change of name for example, due to divorce, marriage, sex reassignment, or any other legally recognised change of identity.
People don't necessarily think when they make their account that they may get divorced, and frankly, I just don't think Paypal give a **bleep**.
Does PayPal.me release the Url already taken by a closed account?
If yes, what about the grace period?
I don't understand why so many people have found the 'solution' helpful. There has been no solution provided. I ask that everyone who finds this thread to please call PayPal and have the person on the phone do what he can to pass the message up the ladder. I've done that and also had someone on live help chat do so as well. Contact methods are found at: https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/contact-us
