Car rental refund deposit

Can somebody tell me how long does it take to get a deposit from a car rental back into my PayPal account I use my PayPal debit card

I'm having the same issue, they charged me the amount of gas I used but I never received the rest of the deposit!

do you guys know if it is necessary to have funds in the Paypal account for a car rental deposit, or if the amount will be taken out of the linked checking account if the Paypal account has no funds?
