"Technical difficulties" when trying to change status of an order. What's going on?

So I sent an invoice to someone after finishing a digital art commission, and in trying to update the order status to "completed" or "processed" (since it's a digital good, it doesnt need to be shipped, and I'd already sent the person the artwork via email), I keep getting the same message: "We are currently experiencing technical difficulties." What's going on?

@kernowlass I am aware of that, I mean how could I figure out what precisely the technical issue is? Servers down? Account issues? Browser issues? What are the potential causes, in other words?
