paypal issued a refund and took it out the same day?

i got issued a refund in January and PayPal says its been issued but it says on my bank statement that PayPal took it straight back out the same day? 
what's that about? if anyone could help, this would be more than appreated because I'm confused.

When you pay its never instant as paypal credit the seller upfront and then paypal wait for the funds to transfer from your bank account takes from a few hours to a few days), so your refund was credited at more or less the same time as the original payment 'owing' to paypal went out.
