eBay sale refund

Hi,

I sold an item on eBay and then I wanted to refund the total amount to the buyer.

The problem is that the transaction is still pending on my account and the buyer says the same.

I see that the funds have 'left' my bank about 5 days ago.

On Paypal, it states that the transaction would have been completed possibly yesterday...

What could have possibly gone wrong?

Pending refunds can only happen for two reasons.

1. The seller has issued a refund from their bank account which takes time to process. The date given is an estimate dependent on the banks processing times.

2. You funded the payment to the seller using bank transfer. What PayPal do here is credit the recipient on your behalf (so there is no delay in despatching your item). Then if you receive a refund in the meantime they are unable to issue this until the original bank transfer completes.
