accidentally sent to an unregistered email

So I have a friend who accidentally used another email of mine as his transaction contact and it appeared on my email logs but the thing is I have a separate PayPal account. so when I clicked the link of the " accept payment " I merged that second email of mine to my original PayPal account and then right after that I checked if the transaction went through but it turns out the money got refunded back to him. He already contacted PayPal and I have the ticket/reference # for it. I'm supporting his case because it's an honest mistake and could happen to everyone. I just wanted to know if how long would be the processing days before it returns to his account? as to what he said, when he called PayPal Support they told him that it'll be 30 days before it gets resolves but I doubt it takes that long. FYI, He used a Credit Card for the transaction.

Thanks!

When you cancel a payment those funds can't do a u-turn > they have to process through to paypal who will as the transaction was cancelled return them to your funding source (if you paid from your bank account or with a card), or credit your paypal balance (if it was funded from that balance), but that takes a few days and sometimes up to a week.
