Zero balance but I received email for payment

I live in South Africa. I set up a PayPal account and had someone deposit money into the account using my email address. I received an email from a secure PayPal email stating I had received payment and I must login to withdraw. I saw on my profile the balance of funds is $0. I have created a profile with FNB, I have linked my PayPal profile to my FNB online banking profile, I have verified my bank account details with FNB but still on my PayPal profile it shows I have not received any payment and my funds are $0. I don't know what to do next to get this money. Please help. The email from PayPal says o need to claim payment by 20 Jan 2019 otherwise the money will be refunded to the person who sent it. Thanks

Have they sent in $'s and if so have you added that currency to your SA paypal account?
