What is a "preapproved payment"?

There are already some posts about the same question but I can't find a clear answer, so I hope here you can help me.

I can't understand what a preapproved payment is, and how does it work. 
(For example, it is just a subscription?)

Yes a subscription you have set up, so you pre-approved it to be paid when the time comes.
