What does split this mean?

I have noticed something new SPLIT THIS on payments sent what does this mean

I was wondering the same thing so I telephoned customer service, it took a good half hour to get someone but when I did he didn't have a clue, just said he didn't understand why it was there, what use are these people if they don't understand the workings of Paypal.

I hope someone will tell us what split this means.

This question  has been raised all over this site and despite the fact it is clearly read by Paypal employees they just can't be bothered to reply ! Too busy scamming people I would suspect !

How do I split a bill using PayPal?

During checkout, PayPal makes it easy to split a bill with your friends.

1. Select PayPal at checkout, and log in to your PayPal account.
2. Select, or add friends you’d like to split your bill with.
3. Click Next.
4. Review, and update how you’d like the bill split.
5. Click Request Money.

On the confirmation page, you’ll see the money you’ve requested from your friends. Each person will receive an email with a Pay Now button, making it simple for them to pay you back.

I so agree with you, totally useless as far as I can see.

You would think they could spend more time sorting out other problems that wasting time setting up this.

It doesn't make sense to me.  The option to 'split this' didn't come up until  *after* payment had been made!

I have got "Split this" on the payment I made to Charity!! Who else should I split it with

Should I split it with PayPal so they could hire someone to answer our questions and fix the UI so it doesn't show Split this?
