I sent money to a friend but I sent to the wrong email address. It has been completed on my end so I can't cancel the payment. The recipient does not know how to retrieve the payment because it was sent to wrong email. How do I find out where the money went and get it refunded

Email that 'wrong' email address which obviously is valid to another person and ask them to issue a refund.
If they refuse and you sent as goods/services then open a dispute for non receipt of item and as they have nothing to send you then you should get a refund.
However if you sent as friends/family and they refuse then sadly not a lot you can do about it.
Advice is voluntary.
