Someone has sent me a payment as gifted, opposed to goods - Am I protected?

I'm selling a camera lens on Facebook.

The buyer has sent payment via a different PayPal account name and sent it as gifted as opposed to goods.

Am I safe as a seller? Or can they get their money back down the line?

Hi @CurtisBowden14,

Thank you for reaching out to PayPal.

To answer your question, personal transactions (money sent to/from friends and family), basically are not covered by PayPal purchase protection sinc ethe context of personal payments is sending money to someone you know personally so that if any dispute arises, both parties would be able to resolve it amicably by communicating with each other.

For this particular situation, it is best to refund the money to the other party and have them send it the correct way: semd payment for goods and services so both of you would have the opportunity to be covered by PayPal protection.

Hope this helps.
