a customer purchased thru our e-commerce site and needed a refund. They use PayPal to process e-commerce. The refund has been a mess. This morning the echeck cleared, but the customer didn't have paypal. Where is the money? The customer emailed about their rent being late. No customer service available to help.

When you get paid as a seller its never instant, paypal credit you upfront and paypal wait for the funds to transfer from the buyers funding source.

BUT if you issue a refund funded from your bank account then they don't refund in advance, this time its you and the buyer that takes the wait.

Buyers often expect it to go back to their paypal balance so don't think that they have received the refund when they have because.......

Once completed it will automatically go back to the buyers bank account or card.
Normally it can take a few days up to a week to go back to a bank account and a bit longer for a card, Paypal say allow 30 days for a card (1 billing cycle) but its rarely that long.
