I have been awarded a refund from the merchant, I have to get proof of postage along with the tracking number, the cost of tracking almost equalled the item price so I returned the goods using standard postage, as proof of postage I wanted to send a photo of the receipt from the post office but the page didn’t allow that, I also took a photo of the parcel. I now have a second item to return the standard postage cost will be around £8.50 and tracking nearer to £19.00 the value of the item is £19.00 why do we the purchasers have to pay for genuine returns and why can we not prove the postage by sending a photo of the receipt? Both items came from China this is a lesson for me to beware of who I buy from in future.

In the event of a dispute you need to bear in mind possible return trackable costs before you buy from that seller / item / country because....
Paypal state this >>
PayPal is not obliged to reimburse you for any costs that you incur to comply with any of PayPal’s requests for cooperation for the purpose of resolving the problem (including, without limitation, costs that you incur to return a SNAD item to the Payment Recipient or another party as PayPal requests), although sometimes it may reimburse these costs.
Although they will compensate you for some of the cost if you have activated this at some point before you made that transaction.

You also have the option to do a chargeback via your card issuer instead of a Paypal dispute if you funded your Paypal payment via a credit card.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

i have the same issue. The item i bought (did not know it was from China) came completely destroyed. Even the package stated "item damaged during shipment". Now they want me to ship it back $31 for a $45 item.. I will never buy anything shipped from china again. Complete shysters. I am going to cancel paypal instead. There are better companies to deal with that will support US patrons over foreign crooks.
