I erroneously sent money to the incorrect email address and got notification right away that the email does not have a PayPal account in order to accept the payment, luckily. I noticed straight away and hit the cancel transaction button. Which was successful. This was over 5 business days ago. When I go to my most recent transactions, it shows the value in green with a plus symbol and the status ‘refunded’. However when I look at the status of the activity, it is saying refund-pending. Any ideas as to what I need to do next? I tried looking up the most asked questions and I’m a bit confused by it. Do I just need to wait for paypal to process the refund? Any help is appreciated

Gosh you were lucky, if that mis-spelled email address was valid to another person you 'may' have lost your money !!


Luckily you could cancel, so when you cancel a payment those funds can't do a u-turn > they have to process through to paypal who will as the transaction was cancelled return them to your funding source (if you paid from your bank account or with a card), or credit your paypal balance (if it was funded from that balance), but that takes a few days and sometimes up to a week.

Thank you for the advice! I figured this was the case but I just wanted to get it confirmed. I was in a bit of a panic as to whether I needed to contact the person, but then I didn’t want to alert them either incase they did set one up and accept the payment. You have eased my mind. Thank you!
