A refund will always be credited to the card that was used to send the payment. If the card is no longer valid, you can contact the card issuer to find out how they will apply the refund. If there's a new card number associated with the account, it will likely be applied to the account for use with the new number. If the old account is completely closed, the card issuing bank can guide you regarding how the funds can be made available to you.
