Pre-order transaction disappeared and money put back into account

When I was checking recent transactions, I noticed the transaction for what i pre-ordered disappeared from both Paypal summary and my card's transaction history. The money was put back into my account.

I was under the impression that Paypal held onto the money until the merchant authorizes payment.

Hello, xxelement. Thanks for taking the time to post your question here on the Community Forum. It sounds as though the merchant canceled the pre-order. That would be the most likely reason any hold on funds was released and money returned to you. Have you consulted with the merchant? If so, what did they say?

PayPal doesn't have control over the completion or cancellation of an authorization (or order), so checking with the merchant would be the best thing to do. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for being a part of the PayPal Community!
