Paypal returned money to a old card

Paypal have returned a refund to a credit card that does not exist. what can i do?

Is the card ACCOUNT still open?

If old and new cards belong or belonged to the same card account then it should still go through ok.

No it’s closed. I spoke with Amex and they said they have received nothing. They also said they can’t receive payments from PayPal However PayPal day they accepted the payment?

Then if its declined it should bounce back to your paypal account, allow 14 days and if no show contact customer services for a trace?

Thanks I’m just confused as PayPal says it was accepted and Amex says it can’t be I will wait and see I guess
