Payment sent and debited account

I sent a seller a payment using my PayPal account and it has been debited from my checking. The seller did not receive the money. Paypal says it was not sent to his PayPal, but to his account on Facebook marketplace and they cannot do anything. He is a friend and he is not lying. I don't know where my money went and PayPal can't tell me. I have called and he has called and now they say I should wait 3 days for the receiver to process the payment. Has this happened to anyone else? I don't know what to do. The money must have went somewhere because PayPal took it out.

What does it say next to the transaction in your Paypal account?

1. Pending / Unclaimed.
2. Pending / Unclaimed with a cancel option.
3. Completed / Sent.
4. Pending / Uncleared.
5. Pending awaiting authorisation.

How did you fund the payment to your friend.

1. Bank account.

2. Debit card.

3. Credit card.

4. Funds in your paypal balance.

How did you send the payment.

1. Send money > goods / services.

2. Send money > friends / family.

3. Invoice or money request.

4. Paypal.me link.
