Payment on Hold?

I purchased an item last week, the merchant now has my item "on hold" waiting for payment. I have called my bank, they advised that paypal has the authorization to take the funds, however i'm not showing it in my activity section. The merchant says that I need to contact paypal, however when I call customer service I get hung up on and I cannot get any answers through the supposed chat system. Has anyone had this before?

My payment is still on hold as well and there was no item shipped it was just a friend wiring me money. So he marked it as he received item a week ago and my money is still on hold
