I've used PayPal for years. Today was the first time I didn't receive the full amount the person paid when I did a money request. Does PayPal take a percentage of certain types of transactions? I can't figure out what was different about this one.

You always pay a fee to receive payments from buyers.
The only time you don't is if its a friends/family payment BUT its against paypal rules to accept that sort of payment for selling and can get you banned.

This transaction was someone reimbursing me. ZERO to do with something being sold. so it totally sucks that PayPal stole part of it.

In that case......
Its down to how the payment was SENT to an account.
1. If sent using money > goods / services option then paypal would see the recipient as a seller and would charge a fee.
2. If sent using the send money > family / friends option then the recipient would have the payment instantly (as long as it wasn't an echeque pending with a clearance date) with no fee.
