I have a UK PayPal account and want to purchase a product off a US website. My account currently holds the GBP equivalent to the price in dollars for the item I want to purchase but every time it says that there was a problem continuing the transaction and to contact PayPal. Any ideas??

If you have funds in your paypal 'balance' then it has to be in the correct currency.
So if its GBP then it wouldn't matter if it was more than the amount needed in USD you still wouldn't be able to send it unless you converted that first.
Whereas if you sent the payment using your bank account or a card paypal would do the conversion for you and show you how much in GBP would be deducted from your funding source when sending USD before you click to pay.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
