Is it safe to give my paypal email address to unknown buyer?

I am selling a small item via gumtree. The buyer wants my email address such that they can send me the money. I know that this is the way for me to receive the money, but are there any bad consequences possible? Do I need to link my credit card to my paypal account? Is it safer if I don't have any linked credit/debit cards? Am I safe enough if I give them my email address? They also know my phone number, which was posted on the ad.

@ukcustomer

You seem to know very little about paypal and there are many scams about.

I suggest before you start selling items you read up on how it works AND read up on paypal seller protection and what coverage you get.

Then you can risk assess your transactions.

I’m a buyer so I’m kind of on the other end but I’m trying to send money back to my seller. Haven’t heard from them so how do I do that without info and not putting my seller in uncomfortable position by asking? New on eBay and PayPal, still figuring out lol, so any advice would greatly be appreciated!
