I have a friend trying to send me money but he says his iOS won't verify the transaction and that I have to get a gift card is this true or is it a scam
From what you'e described, I would definitely call that a scam. Don't exchange gift card codes in lieu of payments for goods or services. Hopefully you haven't taken any steps to complete their request yet.
