Fraud Problem

I sent a payment to a person which had an email address with the Yandex site.  It turns out this was not the correct address, the money was withdrawn from my checking account, and in trying to contact this email address for the return of the payment, it turns out to be a fraud email.

What do I do to get the $180 returned?

If the other persons paypal account was hacked then that is their problem.

The fact you paid them does not mean they have your paypal information as paypal keeps that confidential for you and the receiver does not have your bank account information.

1. How did you send it ie transaction type?

2. How did  you fund it ie funding source linked to paypal?

3.
What does it say next to the transaction in your Paypal account?

1. Pending (with a clearance date)
2. Pending/Unclaimed with a cancel option.
3. Pending/Unclaimed withOUT a cancel option.
4. Payment or Sent.
5. Pending/Uncleared with a clearance date.
6. Pending awaiting authorisation.

If its saying payment 'sent' then it looks like you sent a 'gift' of money to someone?

Your screenshots are not showing up so can't see them until approved by a moderator.

However if you did use the family/friends option to send the money then sadly nothing you can do about it.

since the address shown is a yandex site, does that mean the account was hacked, and then what other information can they get i.e. bank account number, password to PayPal account, or credit card number since it was also tied into the account?

Thank you for your quick response
