I was refunded for an eBay item with an echeque and I received an email saying it was cleared but there is no sign of the money. I did not have a PayPal account when I initially made the purchase and only made an account after the refund was initiated. I have no idea where the money is but I have a transaction ID. Any way to resolve this?

If you funded the original payment to the seller from your bank account or a card (which you would have used if you paid as a guest buyer) then once marked refunded it will automatically go back to that bank account or card. Paypal say allow 30 days although its normally much quicker than that, country dependent.
You had no need to open a paypal account to receive the refund.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.
