As the title states, I made a purchase of £500 on 24th October using my debit card. I cancelled my order with the retailer on the same day.
This morning I have found two transactions related to this purchase.
CREDIT FROM PAYPAL +£500
CARD PAYMENT TO PAYPAL -£500
So not sure what is going on here. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

You can cancel a transaction but NOT a processing payment, your payment starts the transfer process as soon as you click to pay.
So when you cancel a payment OR are issued a refund those funds can't do a u-turn > they have to process through to paypal who will then either return them to your funding source (if you paid with a debit or credit card), or credit your paypal balance (if it was funded from your balance or instant bank transfer), but that takes a few days and sometimes up to a week.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
