Automatic Payments (What happens after)

I have recently been doing some screen cleaning and i noticed quite a few old subscriptions that i no longer use. For example, World of Warcraft monthly or Xbox live. I was able to find all the auto payments and i canceled the blizzard one and a few others. My question is, what happens to the payment after i cancel it from pay pal. Will this cancel my subscription? What happens when it cant bill to my pay pal will I be fined? or will it just cancel. thanks everyone for the help.

Would be a good idea to log in to those accounts to ensure they are deactivated as well to avoid them attempting to charging you since each merchant may have different policies regarding cancelation of subscriptions.
