Annoyed by automatic payment feature

I've been a paypal member for about 10 years.  In the past month, when I have clicked paypal as my payment method, after login I am taken to a screen asking if I want to add the merchant for auto payments from my account.  I NEVER want to do this, but there is no option to decline, only accept.

This means every time I make a payment now, I need to log back in to my account and deactivate automatic payments for these merchants.

If this doesn't stop, I will quit using paypal.  Is this a bug or are they just strongarming clients into this auto payment stream?

Welcome tot he PayPal Community.

Please double check with the merchant you are purchasing from to ensure it is not a subscription service you are setting up as this is not something we have come across.
