Activity type: TRANSFER vs REFUND? and approx time

Hi there,

My CC was illegally accessed had an UN-authorized transaction through paypal which I reported. Paypal investigated and advised it will be refunded. My CC was blocked and closed by the Bank as per policy, and was provided a new card with new number. Now as far as I understand, paypal says refunds go back to original payment method which in this case was CC - which is closed anymore.

Paypal email response to my opened case said the money will be refunded to my Paypal Balance. And I can now see a transaction type called "TRANSFER" of same amount saying "Refund issued by paypal", the status says "Completed" but I can't see any balance in my Paypal Balance. Its been 4 days.

Now the questions are;

- What exactly is the meaning of TRANSFER in this case? Vs REFUND.

- Also if anyone had a similar situation and in your experience will the money be refunded to CC or my Paypal Balance?

- And how long approx does the TRANSFER transaction take for money to show in your Paypal balance? in such a case where Paypal has issued a refund.

Many thanks

Click the transaction. What does it say there? Any info about it being refunded to your card? Or is it a straight up PayPal balance payment? If PayPal sent money to your PayPal balance, it should be fairly instant and you should contact customer service to inquire:

Log on, click HELP on top menu, scroll down to click CONTACT US, and then scroll down to click CALL US or other available options.

Or contacting via social media:

Twitter: @AskPayPal

Otherwise, issued refunds are returned to original funding source. Arrival times may vary:

- Bank payments, 3-5 or 5-7 days, depending on your bank.

- Cards, about a week, up to 30 days depending on your issuing card.

- PayPal balance, fairly instant.

- Split payments between PayPal balance and card/bank, see above.

And contact your card issuer to see what their policy is with refunds issued to closed cards if indeed PayPal refunded to the card. Card issuer may have a special process to credit the refund to the new card.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Appreciate your response.

When I click the Paypal transfer transaction through web, there isn't much details but it says;

- Refund issued by PayPal

- Transfer

- Amount

- Paid by: PayPal

- Exchange Rate

- Transaction ID

When I check the same Paypal Transfer transaction through Paypal phone app, its very confusing and says:

- You've transferred (amount) from your Credit Card XXXX Balance

- Transfer from Bank - Completed

- Transaction ID

The transaction detail on Paypal phone app is very confusing considering the TRANSFER transaction is by Paypal, why does it mention Transfer amount from my Credit Card? etc

Many thanks

The detail

Hmmm, confusing indeed. You ought contact customer service about this as the forums are only user to user help with no access to your account to handle specific account issues:
