Accidentally sent a payment -can't be refunded because Paypal took the fees

I was paying a friend for an item through their paypal.me link. Despite double and triple checking that the amount was 15 dollars, Paypal took 1500USD.

Panicked I asked my friend to refund me so we could try again, but Paypal had already taken the fees (roughly 80 dollars) and she cannot refund me back the full amount without going into the red.

Because it was through a paypal.me link at no point was the amount pending or was the transaction cancellable.

We opened a "dispute" but I don't want her getting into trouble over paypal's mistake. Is there any way to revert the whole transaction now?

Sorry, PayPal no longer refunds PayPal fee originally paid so recipient has to deduct the amount of the PayPal fee from the amount to refund in order to not be in the red.

So she has to refund $1420 ($1500-$80) if there wasn't a dispute opened.

To offer a partial refund for your dispute:

  1. Go to the Resolution Center.
  2. Select Open Cases from the list and find the transaction.
  3. Click the Case ID under the Case column.
  4. Click Offer a partial refund on the case details page.
  5. Enter the amount you want to offer and click Calculate to figure out the net refund amount and fee refund.
  6. Click Offer refund

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
