Is there a way to unsubscribe from PAD? Reason being that this method takes payment from my bank account and not my balance, despite that being my preferred option

Thats because PAD is a scheduled payment so can only work with your bank account.
Try this unless its moved with the lastest interface change.

OR just don't select it at checkout.

1.Log into your PayPal account at www.paypal.co.uk.
2.Click the COG SYMBOL 'SETTINGS' near the top right of the page. (spanner thing next to log out).
3.Scroll down to 'Payment Settings'.
4.Click 'Pay after Delivery',
5.Under 'Paying after delivery is my preferred way to pay', click 'Turn this option off'.

Thanks for that-only been looking at settings on the app and didn’t think to do it through the website 🙄 All sorted now, thank you 😊
