There are several ways for you to accept payments with PayPal. Although, all PayPal payment solutions gets you paid quickly and more securely; the right one for you depends on your ecommerce situation. For instance, if you’re a freelancer and not selling directly on a website, the simplest way for you to request payments from your clients is through email (or mobile*).

With PayPal, you can request payments from anyone with an email address or mobile number*. Your clients worldwide can pay you easily whether they have a PayPal account or not.

  • Best if: You’re not selling directly through a website, blog or marketplace.
You’re a freelancer or service provider (i.e. if you sell a service like graphic design,  tuition etc.).
  • Technical skills: None.
  • Payments accepted globally: PayPal balance, major credit and debit cards, and bank account.

How it works

  1. Go to “Request Payments” in your PayPal account.
  2. Enter the recipient’s email address or mobile number, and the amount you’re requesting for.
(You can also add a personalised note.)
  3.  Send your payment request.

Your payment request is emailed (or SMSed) to your customer. They’ll click the payment button and pay via PayPal's secure website. You’ll receive an email notification when you get paid, and the payment is credited to your PayPal account immediately.

You can also:

  • Send a reminder.
  • Edit or cancel the payment.

Request a payment now.

Another way for you to get paid – email an invoice

PayPal’s Online Invoicing may also be right for you – you can easily create and send invoices to anyone with an email address. We recommend this if you want to send professional payment requests to your customers.  And, if you have a regular business or larger volume of sales, you’ll be able to track and manage your payments.  More about Online Invoicing.

Want to accept payments on your website or blog shop? There’s also a PayPal solution that’s right for you. More about online payments.
