unable to find out why PayPal states an ipn is retrying

I have 3-4 IPN transactions that never were received - setting are fine and everything worked until 3 days ago.
How do you find out why it is marked Retrying or know what an error is ?
Can you also get rid if stupid image verification crap or make it only 1 level
