Subscirption emails no longer show custom variable information

I pass information to paypal using the custom variable to pass membership information.

I no longer see this information in the emails for "You have a new automatic payment profile " or on the subscription renew "You received a payment"

 

In addition I can no longer view the custom variable inside paypal itself which I also used to track down this information. Neither in the initial subscription create nor any followup payments. Which is making it harder to track specific user id's in my case.
