Things don't appear to be working at the moment... error on recurring payments through URL

Hello - I build a PayPal solution for a nonprofit client that allows donors to make their payment through PayPal. It takes info submitted on a donation page and upon submission of the form redirects the user to PayPal using a URL similar to the following:

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?business=capinfo%40chrisapp.org&lc=US&no_note=1&rm=2&currecy_c...

This has worked for several years but stopped working in April 2019 and now returns an error "Things don't appear to be working at the moment. Please try again later." We are still able to submit one-time donations.

Page that is passing the info over to PayPal: https://salsa.wiredforchange.com/o/5994/p/salsa/donation/common/public/?donate_page_KEY=12456

Thanks,

Jon

We appear to be having the same issue.

One time payment buttons work but the subscription / recurring buttons result in the message:

"Things don't appear to be working at the moment. Please try again later."

Ok it appears PayPal has deprecated the old Subscription Buttons.

You must now create subscription buttons from within the PayPal account you want visitors to subscribe to.

See:

Documentation for creating the new buttons:

Hi @b2tech @jonwheelerptc,

I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. A small correction, PayPal has not deprecated the subscription button, but we did deprecate the ability to modify a subscription or have PayPal generate usernames and initial passwords for subscribers. Merchants who previously created a solution with either of these features will experience "Things don't appear to be working at the moment" issues. You can re-create your subscription button without the modify feature, which will solve the current issue your customers are facing. If your button included generating a username or password, merchants will still need to re-generate a button without this feature and will need to find another solution for this use case.

If you find you're still unable to fix this, please submit a ticket with our Merchant Technical Support teams.

As b2tech stated, more information on this can be found in our article Important notice regarding upcoming subscription changes.

Thanks,
Christina
