Smart Paypal Buttons

I have integrated Smart PayPal Buttons  - Paypal checkout, into a booking system, and in 70% of cases the sales go through, however we are getting around 30% failure to process payment. The message returned from PayPal is "An Error Occurred", yet when we talk to the clients their accounts seem to be fine.

 

Is anyone else experiencing these issues and why is PayPal not disclosing what the error actually is?
