Pay with Credit card or Debit Card option

why can't I take credit or debit cards anymore as an option for the customer?

Assuming you have a US Business Account, that option is enabled by default in your account Profile - if it was turned off that would be one reason, if you are offering subscriptions - a PayPal Account is needed.  Bottom line, we don't have enough info or an example - so it's just a guess.
