Customers cannot pay with debit/credit card only PayPal account

Customers have selected the product they want and are trying to check out.  For those that don't have a PayPal account and choose to use a Debit/Credit card, some are receiving a message "Things don't appear to be working at the moment".  Buttons below this message are Try Again and Return to Merchant.

This issue appears to be intermittent as some customers have been able to pay by Credit/Debit card successfully and don't get this message.

I have asked those impacted to clear browsing history, delete cookies, reboot PC/Mac to no avail.

The organization has been using PayPal successfully for many years and we have not encountered this issue before.

We are also having this exact same issue. What cart system are you using?

I am not sure what you mean by the type of cart system.

Our registration form is created in WordPress and then I add the HTML created by PayPal for the button I created to the WordPress post.

The PayPal button is Add to Cart

We are having the exact same issue for at least a week.  Have multiple cases open.  Paypal support has responded that they have depreciated payment via credit card with the standard buttons without sending out any notification.

They have recommended smart buttons but those are extremely buggy and I cannot get them to work on Mobile. Have a ticket on that one also. Lastly, the smart buttons do not provide nearly the functionality of the standard buttons! No inventory or item management. It is a mess!   They have basically cut off existing customers who have used those standard buttons without issue for a decade  with no notice and no options.
