Callback for every transaction of subscription

I'm a developer.

I have build a web app where there are plans to subscribe. The subscription to PayPal works fine. One payment each month until 12 times.

My question follows.

Does PayPal call back on each payment to my returnUrl or to my notifyUrl?

Otherwise I need to check the status of payment every month through API?
