pp_blog_sm.jpegGift cards are the most popular presents this holiday season* and generally one of the most sought after gifts for anyone in your life. Last year, more than half of the gift cards received by US consumers were purchased for the Holidays, according to Blackhawk Network.

Beginning today, just in time for the holidays, PayPal will be opening the doors (or the URL) to the PayPal Digital Gifts store.

What is PayPal Digital Gifts? It is a store that will give people the chance to purchase digital gift cards from a host of our partner merchants. We have one marquee merchant in the store today and will be adding more very soon!

Buying a digital gift from PayPal is as easy as one-two-three: select a gift and denomination, enter your PayPal ID and Password, send the gift to a loved one or redeem it on the spot. Simple, convenient and secure. To help open the digital doors we have just started offering iTunes codes. This year our clients can get more music, more apps, more fun, with a few clicks on their smart phones.

From time to time we will be hosting some upcoming offers. Our savvy buyers will check back here or follow us on Twitter @PAYPAL and/or Facebook/PayPal to learn more. That’s right, PayPal users will be able to snag great deals in less than five clicks—without even taking a wallet out of their pocket, par for the course for the company that pioneered the digital wallet!

Just last week, we announced that PayPal now accepts prepaid gift cards, and we also recently shared that we would be adding gift card support in the PayPal wallet. Today’s launch is a good example of what we are thinking of: frictionless experience that gives consumers more freedom and retailers more access. Expect us to continue to add more digital gifts to the PayPal Digital Gifts store.
