Paypal Debit Mastercard application not approved. Why?

I've applied for a Debit Mastercard, and just got an email that Paypal is unable to approve my application. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Why?

No information, no explanation, no place to go to find out what's wrong.

My account has been long dormant and I've just started to use it again, could that be the reason? According to the site, I have to wait 30 days before applying again. But, not knowing why the application was denied, what action should I take? I may well get disapproved again!

And for the record, I live in the US and don't have any kind of credit issues.

Any help is welcome.

Thanks,

hc

It's money I guess.

I too got this mysterious, unhelpful response. Then by chance, I realized PayPal sent email!

It too was mysterious and unhelpful: about some warning on my account being at fault (no, I didn't fail the login or anything) and needing *photographs of credentials*. Yeah a little strange.

So I called their support staff - very friendly and helpful (thanks Kaitlib), telling me basically that "things didn't automatically verify" (understandable if true) and a debit card specialist would be in touch within 48 hours to get credentials info and we'd be fine.

Within 48 hours, I get this email:

"At this time we will be unable to grant your appeal request as your
account does not meet all of the qualifications. One of the
requirements to have a PayPal debit card is to be an active PayPal
member in good standing. Our definition of an active PayPal member in
good standing is an account that is consistently sending or receiving
payments. Once you have sent or received $500 over the lifetime of your
account and it has been 30+ days, please re-submit your debit card
 application."

Haha! Appeal request? $500? Was anything remotely hinted at in the application or literature?  I was willing to pay Premier rates to use their plastic but now...

How about this: I await PayPal's appeal to ME as to why I should be a customer with this kind of deception.

I am going to apply for the debit card in a couple of weeks. They better NOT tell me I have to spend $500 before I can get a card. I will close my account very fast...

Well, I just received the same email and my account is not dormant AND I have sent and received more than $500 since I've had the account.  I am extremely curious on why they would have denied my application.  Honestly, it really ticks me off as I have excellent credit too.

I'm having the same issue. I've applied twice with the same result as everyone here. My paypal account is approximately 10 years old, I have never had one issue in all this time and have moved thousands of dollars through my account.

I recently started selling on ebay and IF I had the debit card, it would make life a little simpler with buying new stock.

It would be nice to know -why- I can not be approved. There is nothing wrong with my account or credit.

I can only hope in the future that paypal will fix their system to tell people exactly why they can not have a debit card.

I honestly don't even understand why you need good credit or a minimun cash flow.  I have a bank account and just transferred the rest of my Christmas money to my Paypal.  The reason for doing so was because I was hopeful at winning an Ebay auction.  I didn't and now I don't have time to sit and wait for the transfer to finish and THEN transfer it back.  Wouldn't be a problem if I had a debit card.  And it's not like I could use the debit card without money in my account anyway, so why the credit check?
