'Thanks for upgrading to a PayPal Business Account' - but I didn't!!

Just received an email from PayPal with the above title. I'm certainly not aware of having done any such thing. I've tried to find an email address or phone number to speak to PayPal direct but so far have been thoroughly drowned in inappropriate options.

Could someone please advise either (a) why such an email would have come through and/or (b) how to contact PayPal to check it out?

Many  thanks!

a.

If its a spoof, DO NOT USE ANY LINK.

Firstly if the email/ text addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.

Secondly if there was a link OR attachment in that email to ''cancel'' the transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.

If there was a problem with your account paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email or by downloading an attachment, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.

b.

Click on the words "Help / Contact" at the bottom of paypals pages and use the phone option in the blue band at the top OR very bottom of page dependent on what country you are in. Scroll down past the list of help questions and click on 'Call us' bottom of that page. Log in and get the code.

When you get through don't select any options just hang on till you get transfered to an agent OR press '0' OR just say the word 'Agent' repeatedly.

OR

have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?
You can send them a personal message from their facebook or twitter pages.
It's: https://www.facebook.com/PayPal and @AskPayPal for Twitter.

Many thanks for your helpful reply. I'm pretty sure it ISN'T spam but is something triggered by some change or other in PayPal's processes ...

I tried my best to speak to PayPal about it but have given up: just couldn't find a way to navigate the swamp of automated messages and choices to get hold of a human being.

So for now, have changed password and am hoping that will be enough!
