Been using PayPal for many years and just got this messages for the first time after making a purchase. The message came from 72972:

"Real Purchase name and amount changed to protect information name shown below is just for example."

[PayPal] Did you pay 000,00 EUR to JohnDoe on November 2019? Reply 1 if yes 2 if no. [Reply Needed]

Is this a scam??

Did it really say "JohnDoe"? That's sketchy. I wouldn't mess with it and treat it as phishing spam to be on the safe side.

Oh, I see. lol I thought of that too but rather be on the cautious side.

I have seen reports by other users about PayPal sending texts to confirm with you whether a transaction is authorized by you or not if paypal's security system deems it unusual for your account. If you recognize the displayed date, merchant name and amount...then it could be authentic but on the other hand read this before doing anything too just to be aware:

Its best to just stick with one way of PayPal communicating with us. Its bad enough to try to deal with phishing emails but phishing sms texts too? No, thanks.
