Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a puppy from Victoria. If this is a scam and I've made the purchase with paypal, would buyers protection cover this?

Thanks

First, make sure you send payment as goods and services:

a) choose goods and services during payment via send & request tab

b) pay a PayPal invoice

c) pay a money request

d) pay at merchant's shopping card with integrated PayPal checkout

Please read Buyer Protection terms:

https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/paypal-safety-and-security

Some info about disputes:

You get these options to choose from and the option you choose, makes or breaks your claim so best to choose correctly.

I didn't receive an item i purchased

The product or service [the entire order] was not delivered to you.

I received an item that's significantly not as described

The product or service was significantly not as described in your order.

I want to report unauthorized activity

Report suspicious activity, transactions and account changes you didn't authorize*.

I have a billing issue

Report issues with transaction amount, duplicate charges, refunds or canceled subscriptions.

*Meaning someone broke into your account and did something without your permission or knowledge. This does not include paying someone you didn’t know was a scammer or by mistake. Choose from the first two (2) options for such situations.

If you sent payment as friends and family, you won't have the first two (2) options because friends and family payments have no purchase protection, because it is considered a "gift" payment, so no refunds or filing disputes on PayPal, it will get denied. If you paid with credit card, you might want to try and dispute through your card issuer instead, if permitted.

If paid through PayPal guest checkout (no PayPal account), look for PayPal receipt email with the receipt ID number at the bottom. Call customer service and provide receipt ID number to open dispute based on the options listed above.

Lastly, if you have to pay a deposit on the dog, ask seller to send a PayPal invoice for the grand total but enable the "Allow partial payments" option. This way, you can pay a deposit and then pay the rest at a later time on the same invoice, see below.

Allow partial payments

If you want to accept a deposit or partial payment from your customer, check the Allow partial payment box at the bottom of your invoice. You can also set a minimum amount. Your customer can then make a full payment, pay the minimum, or pay an amount greater than the minimum.

Your invoice will have a Partially Paid status until it’s paid in full. The amount paid will also appear on the invoice for both you and your customer.

The partial payments feature allows your customers to make multiple payments toward the full balance of one invoice, rather than you having to submit multiple invoices. It is not intended to be a credit product or to allow for an excessive number of payments to be made. We may contact customers if we suspect they’re not using this feature correctly.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
