Paypal dispute- paid by credit card

Bought an item and paid through paypal with a credit card ( i did not make an account) had a problem with the item and contacted paypal to open a dispute as I don't have an account and they said they'll keep me updated through email. I just got an email saying" dispute escalated to a claim and if we contact you for more information, please respond within the timeframe" As i don't have a PayPal account how would i be able to check the status of the problem? 

Im just really confused because upwards of a hundred dollars are at stake here.
