PayPal fee for selling on eBay - think I've been overcharged

Hi everyone,

I've just sold an item on eBay for £8.10 (item cost £5, postage cost £3.10). PayPal have taken 70p as their fee but if the charge is 2.9% + 30p, I think they should only have taken 53p. I am based in the UK and a personal seller.

Can anyone shed light on why I was charged so much? It seems like a mistake but am finding it difficult to contact PayPal or query this with them.

Thanks for your help,

Lin

Is the buyer international?

Is this a sales tax as a buyer, or are you being charged extra as a seller ???

I was charged sales tax as a buyer...... 6.5% and my state is 6% sales tax...  I told the seller that I was overcharged and he said he couldn't do anything about that, sorry.

Glad I found this forum...   Now at least I can ask.........

No, UK buyer, as far as I can tell.

I sold another item a few days later for the same price and that had a lower PayPal fee, in line with what I expected, so I'm baffled by this first one!

It's not a huge amount of money but I felt bad because I was selling my daughter's toy for her and she got a bit less money than she'd expected.
