Can't issue refund when I have funds in my account

A client paid me this morning and I've decided to refund it.  They paid $299.  I've $400+ in my Paypal account (in the USD currency too).

I'm trying to refund but I'm getting: "You don’t have sufficient balance to complete this payment. Add funds or add a bank account and confirm it."

Any ideas?

When you refund, it appears PayPal uses funds from your primary balance, which is also your default currency. Your default currency is used to send and request payments. Not sure if 'send' includes 'refunds' but by the looks of it perhaps it does. Your foreign currency balances are for receiving and hold funds in those currencies. Maybe try switching your primary currency of your primary balance.

Have you marked that currency as your primary currency for that transaction?

You can change it back later.

Thank you sharpiemarker and kernowlass.  Switching my base currency to USD did the trick.  Shame the error message couldn't have suggested that!

Same issue, but my base currency was ok If bank account (number) was your primary mode of payment ? Or Debit/credit card ? I am allowed to put only debit/credit card no as primary mode of payment.
