Amazon gift card

Hi. I've just had a strange request. I was going to receive some money off an acquaintance for the sum of £1500.00. He said he needed me to but an Amazon gift card of £50, then I send the photo of the gift card to him then I presume he would then pay the money on the gift card and I then verify the card and link it to my PayPal. He said cannot send directly through PayPal and that there are limits to what you can send. Has anyone heard of this before. To me it sounds like a scam.like he would just spend the £50 on the gift card. I've never heard such rigmarol to send money when using paypal is super easy. He asked me for my paypal link which I sent. Couldn't he just enter the amount and press send? Help please.

Well luckily he isnt a friend just an acquaintance trying to help me out. I blocked him straight away. He must think I would fall for it. Silly.
