A bit of a scam

Hi, all!

So, a bit of a silly situation here, had an agreement to purchase a in-game currency for a certain, very much pay to win game, all a-ok, guy comes highly recommended by some of the best in community who are in on it, due to their name in community-pretty untouchable.

So, comes the moment to pay, first I pay by sending with buyer protection, bla, bla, problems, refund, asked to send as friends and family, so I did, I've done that before, since I was not dealing with actual businesses. So next step, guy disappears and I am out of a bit below 200 euros, not sure what to do, opened a claim (I think) I have all the screenshots made of the conversation where we agree on the price and all and screenshots of where the same guy claims he'll get rid of this dispute due to me "donating" him money and wanting to do takebacksies and I know he already spent the money elsewhere, so it is no longer physically on his account.

Not sure what to do or if this is even worth fighting, my own stupidity is at fault, but still it'd be nice to fix it.

A friends / family (or gift payment) is intended as a transfer of funds from family or friends to one another. For this reason, there is no processing fee when payment is made with bank or PayPal balance.
However as it is a “gift” payment, there is also no Buyer protection as no goods or services should have been exchanged.

If he was not a close mate or family member you should never use that option as it enables the seller to evade his paypal fees and negates your buyer protection at the same time. That is also why you would be unable to open a dispute apart from an unauthorised transaction (if your account was hacked and used without your consent).

You also risk having your account limited for using this option when you are purchasing goods as its against Paypal rules.

Your only hope is if you funded your paypal payment via a credit card then contact your card issuer and see if they will help you but unfortunately again as it was a 'gift' of money they may decline as well.
